"theorizing" about Blue gouramis in a proper sized tank...maybe 6 of 'em in a planted tank. Seems to me they are mid-to-top dwellers...so "area" more important than gallonage, right???? I have a 20H but don't thats even enough for a couple. maybe a 40 Breeder when next petco sale hits??? :)

Even more important than area or gallonage, will be distinct territories. Most people (probably including myself) would advise against putting 6 blues together (if you do, 2 M / 4 F). I actually have 5 Blues (3-5") and 1 Gold (5") in my 55 and love them! The most I'd put in a 40 would probably be a trio... I didn't plan my stocking, it came with the tank.

40 Breeder actually has a slightly bigger footprint than a 55G (4.5 sqft vs 4), enough room for 2-3 territories? hmmm...

That or go with smaller gouramis :) I do like a big blue, tho.

Now if I had a pond for the goldfish in the 75G to go in....

A planted tank with floating plants you can keep 1 per 5-6 gallons. With over 5 (the more the better) they will work out a pecking order and be very happy.Giant hydro is a easy to grow large leaf plant.

That's a little too much, IMO. I'd say 8-10 gallons, if you kept mostly females. To be comfortable, really, they need a 55g min, or a 40g breeder, for the bigger footprint.
