I've had my blue/three spot gourami for about 3 months now and am finally gonna upgrade him from a 10 gallon hex to a 20 gallon tank. I was wondering, now that I have more room, if there are any other species that get along with blue guoramis? Or if I'm just better off getting a few others just like him. He seems a little territorial though, he likes to smack the underwater thermometor with his tail a lot, which makes me wonder if he would even get along with other fish in his new surroundings. Any ideas/suggestions?

Well they can be aggressive (even though mine are very peaceful) but take a look at some of the fish I have with them in my 25g . I doubt they he will be very nasty to some tetras, cories, ottos and things like that.

Agreed. Since your particular fish seems very territorial, I'd avoid other territorial fish (other gouramis, bettas, angels, paradise fish, etc.) and stick to tetras, rasboras, cherry barbs (I wouldn't get other types of barb, they could nip the gourami, but cherrys are very peaceful) and bottom dwellers like kuhli loaches, corys, otos, bristlenose/rubbernose plecos, shrimp and snails.

In my experience, gouramis have an unnatural preoccupation with thermometers. I've finally given up putting mine back, they want it at the back, they can **** well keep it there lol.

Gouramis will be less aggressive to other fish if you give them another gourami to focus on. Silvertip tetras, buenos aires tetras, madagascan rainbows, columbian tetras and praecox rainbows are all shoalers i've kept without incident alongside gouramis. Give him surface cover and long plants to hide in when the mood takes him and I doubt he'll ever get round to feeling grumpy.
