Recently I noticed my female blue gourami had some scale damage on one flank and a pinkish spot on her ventral surface right behind the pectoral fin. I assumed it was caused by an accidental collison with a rock, and began using Melafix. It appeared to improve at first. Today, the third day of the Melafix treatment, she looks worse. She has several pinkish wound-like spots and the scale damage looks worse. Help!

It could be another fish attacking her. What else do you have in the tank?

It's a fairy large tank (320L) with 8 Congo Tetras, a pair of Australian Rainbows, 2 Siamese Algae Eaters, and several smaller fish (neons, and zebras). They've all been together with no problems for about 3 years. The male Australian and a couple of the larger Congos do occasionally chase various fish, but I've never seen any attacks. I'll keep closer attention just in case... thanks!

If you could post a pic, that would help determine what it might be.

You can see the scale damage on the right-hand picture as well as a pinkish wound at the center of the dorsal fin. The ventral pink lesion is visible on the left-hand picture.

I have heard that SAEs will suck on fish and pull off scales but as they have been together for a while this seems unlikely unless the SAEs have grown larger compared to him? The damage to the left side certainly looks like something has been biting at it ... I had the same with my gourami recently when he suddenly decided to hang out with my angel fish who started attacking him.

Not sure that helps but hope you find out the cause of the problem
