By bloodworms do you mean mosquito larvae? I'm unintentionally breeding them right now in my backyard tub pond, lol. It just takes a tub of stagnant water. It won't make you too popular with your neighbors.

By the way, welcome to the forum. I spent one of the best years of my life as a student in San Jose and in the country near a village called Rivas.

Done "right" you can actually reduce the mosquito population around you as long as you harvest every few days and don't allow the larvae to become adults.

You do need sitting water - more surface area is better. A friend that does it uses a 5 gallon bucket. Get some tule from a fabric store - enough to fit in the bucket. Put it in the bucket, weight it down with a rock or something, and let it sit. Every few days go out and look for the little wigglers - if you see them, either net them out or if there is a lot just remove the weight and lift the tule out. It will seine the water as you remove it, getting every last wiggler for your fish to enjoy.
