I have had a dwarf frog in one of my tanks for a couple years now. Suddenly it is bloated and swollen. Mainly the Abdominal but also it's head area looks bad... Is there something I can do for this guy to save him?

Any ideas?

thanks for the link sounds like he turned into a baloon frog from feeding them CA blackworms. I had him in with my newts and he probably ate too much.

However according to that site theres not really much else they eat anyways unless I want to breed mosquito larvae...

http://www.pipidae.net/adcf_food.php

I was told to feed them live blackworms guess this was not good info..

Then again im confused because it looks as if that site is calling Blackworms Mosquito Larvae? Thats not the same at all.

Recommended treatment is :

Anti-Internal Bacterial tropical fish remedy
Or Aquarium Salt.

I have aquarium salt but I'm not sure what they mean by Anti-Internal Backertial Troppical Fish Remedy? (Pima Fix?)
Thanks.

I believe they may be referring to bloodworms as mosquito larvae. I used to feed my adf's every other day pellets or brine shrimp. You can also feed the daphnia and artemia which can be purchased at most fish stores. Blackworms should be ok for your frog. Do you have a picture of him?

No pic my camera sucks I will see what I can do. I do think they mean California Bloodworms. I actualy had a Fire belly Toad die of something similar. He looked exactly the same and I guess Blackworms came out of him when he died (He could not digest them was what I figured)

Anyways this is the recommended treatment for him

Will this affect my plants or other fish / snails / shrimp that are in the tank?

BTW I tried feeding them pellets when I first had them and the only thng I could get them to eat was live blackworms.

your fish and plants would be fine, the inverts I am not so sure. I usually will either remove the inverts for treatment, or remove the effected frog (in this case) to a qt tank to treat. Be careful when using antibiotics to treat your main tank as it can effect your bio-filter. I used maracyn in one of my display tanks once and experienced a mini cycle.

I do have a quarantine tank but it is not cycled. Shoudl I move him to that and begin treatment> I also have a guppy with what appears to be dropsy again, but for whatever reason he is clinging on to life, so I'll probably treat them both at once if a QT is needed.

I would move him over and start treating. You could take some filter media from your cycled tank and put it into the qt tank filter, or squeeze out the goo from the media in the filter of the qt tank. Good luck, hope he recovers. I have been trying (to no avail) to get adf's in my area for a year now. They are wonderful!

They sell them like crazy here but reading some stuff on that site you linked me too makes me not ever want to consider purchasing them again. Something about some new disease they often ship with where treatment recomends you bleach the entire tank and throw away all plants.

alot of the diseases that they get are not transferrable to fish, just other frogs. That is how I lost the ones that I had for several years. I added a new one which had chytrid, and it wiped out all my frogs. Then I moved to a new area and have been unable to find healthy stock.
