Molly fry are large enough to eat flake food that you put into a pastic bag and crush into a fine powder. Using the end of a toothpick as a spoon, scoop a small amount out of the bag and into the tank. I feel 3 times a day is sufficient, some people feed more, but in a small tank with as many fry as you have, I would be a little leary of overfeeding and the health risks involved. Also, since there are so many fish in such a small tank, be sure to do water changes much more often, at least every other day. What are your plans for the fry once they get a little biggger? Obviously they cannot all stay in the 4 gallon as a growout.

Harlock thanks for your reply.
i will move them to my 20 gallons tank which contains 14 gallons of water.
i feed them blood worms today which was funny (great scenario).
but one more thing there stomic is bigger than there body???(is that mean there is alot of waste inside?)
also i introduced elodea plant to them which contains hair algea.they eat alot of that algea.
how to save blood worms alive for longgest possible period?

You're very welcome. 30 mollies in a 20 gallon is still grossly overcrowded if this is their final destination. I am confused by your assertion that their stomachs are larger than their bodies. Do you mean it is round and bloated looking, or just that the overall length of their body is smaller in comparison to their stomachs? And yes, mollies are fantastic fish for eating algae and the like. My adult mollies seem to graze all day on the sides of the tank and by picking algae off of the plants in the tank. I do not feed live blood worms, so really haven't the slightest clue how to keep them alive for the longest period of time. I generally avoid feeding live foods. I would continue a rigorous water change schedule for as long as you continue to keep the fish in an overcrowded situation. The larger the fish get, the harder this will become.

I'm interested to know how they do. I purchased a single female for my 2 gallon aquarium at work the week before Memorial Day. After coming back from the 3 day weekend, I noticed 9 black molly fry swimming around and 1 up in the filter, who actually lived. I am now down to 2 fry left. They seem happy/healthy though. Eventually want to take them home and place in my 55G planted tank. Hair algae is starting to go crazy there.

yes Harlock: it is round and bloated looking.

1- try to move frys to a separated tank which does not contain old fish, or even young fish of a bigger size.
2- feed them 3-5 times evey day (small amounts of good food).i feed my frys every 5 hours starting at 9:00 am and stop after 4 times feeding.
3- if the fry tank is small change about 50% of the tank water every day with water of the same conditions(specially salt concentration and temperature).
4- mix 1 tablespoon of salt for each 5 gallons of water, that's a very good deal for mollie fry.
5- light on the tank to make them more active and move alot.
6- keep water warm 26.5C-28C.
7- remove any hardware may kill them like large mechanical filters.

do the frequent feedings just help them grow more quickly, or is it because they are so small they digest quickly and just need to eat more often?

How fast do they grow?? My mollie just had 3 fry (2 survived... after two days I found them hiding.. I thought they all died). How long before they can move back to my community tank??

wow i must have an abnormal molly because i had 60 fry from one female (first time ) i had them in a 10 by themselves but moved most to a 40 gal
what i have noticed ...
the ones in the ten gal that didnt have to fight for food are 3-4 times bigger than the ones i put in the 40 gal with other fish ..btw only have 5 left .. rest dissapeared
just my thoughts ..have a great day
