OK. Just out of curiosity...what is the largest fish you can comfortably and happily fit (by it self) in a standard 10 gallon tank?

Freshwater and Tropical or Coldwatered species are accepted.

I prefer single fish tanks. Its easier to make sure each fish gets everything it needs.

and I don't want it too be "well...you could maybe fit a _______ in there but not easily. I'd like the fish to be really happy but not like neon tetra size.

A Betta would be happy in a 10g.

Aside from that nothing big, anything I would suggest would stay under a couple inches.

As far as ONE "big" fish for a 10, I'd probably say Dwarf Gourami, Betta, Swordtail, etc.

Coolness. Any ideas about some uncommon fish I could try?

if looking for a "uncommon" fish try the bumble goby, be sure which one you're look at though most of them are brackish water. Still pretty cool fish IMO

Could I do a male and female sailfin molly or would they kill each other? Or two dwarf gouramis?

male and female molly will be fine but be prepared for fry! And idk bout the gouramis

Only one gourami for a tank so small.
