Anyone have or know of a betta who eats or likes Malaysian Trumpet Snails? Are these as inappropriate for bettas as they are for Puffers? I can't find any info on this on the web. Thanks.

I think it would be OK for a betta to eat MTS. Puffers crunch the shell of snails, so MTS can hurt them. Bettas as far I as know don't crunch the shell, they just suck the snail out. But most bettas wont even bother snails IME.

Yeah, with the bigger snails you'll get about half and half. Half of bettas will pick away at the snail, and half of them will completely ignore them. Because the shells are too big to fit inside the bettas mouth, you don't have to worry about them eating the shells, like you have to watch for with larger pond snails.

I put a betta in my puffers' snail tank. ALL the snails were gone in the morning, HAPPY betta.

I did something similar with my 10G (see sig) where I relocated a betta into it. I know I had atleast a dozen odd pond snails in there when I put him in there, and currently all I can find is one very, very, dangerously fat betta. I didn't think he'd get them ALL in a day and a half

ive never seen my betta eat a MTS but i have seen him eat baby ramshorn(wht i believe to be ramshorn, have no idea if they are or where they came from) and pond snails. and any eggs they find layin about. it's really kinda funny when i feed my betta and a pond snail floats by he will quickly snatch the snail, and if it's small enough he will eat it, if not he will spit if out.

p.s. ive also seen my betta pull at some hair algae on some driftwood, dont think he was eating it. i think he was just playin with it.

He was probably trying to eat it, thinking it was some kind of worm. Bettas will attempt to eat anything they can fit into their mouth, especially if it moves. That's why you have to be especially careful about overfeeding them with live food, because they will literally eat themselves to death if you let them.

Hey. :) What is the issue with larger pond snails? Do the eat them, and then they cause problems for the betta?

Edited to say, I'm laughing out loud about your pig of a betta. lol

What kind of snails are you feeding your puffers? I know the MTS aren't good for them, and I mistakenly picked some up, so I was wondering if the bettas would eat them or if they would hurt them in any way. I was unable to find anything out of the web.
