I am wondering about putting a male betta in a tank with my angels? Will the betta pick on the long fins of the angels or vice versa? The angels are not of course shaped anything like a betta so I wondered if he would go after them?
Plus they are colored very differently...

I'm guessing the betta will be around 2" long or so. Once the angel hits 3" which it will and more, you'll be picking bits of your betta out of the filter :) An angel is still a cichlid and will definitly make short work of your betta so I wouldnt do it.

It should be fine. As long as the angels are not breeding, they should leave it alone. I've done it several times with no problems.

Angels will usually coexist peacefully with other fish, unless they're so small as to be eaten (neon size). Are your angels veils? I might watch to be sure the betta doesn't pick at their fins.

A betta has a mouth full of teeth and a legendarily pugnacious attitude. I don't think even a full-grown angel would have the equipment to tear one apart.

:sim: Give it a try.(in a 29gl tank)That is lots of room,For a pair of angels. And one Betta.

ya betta is the siamese fighting fish its like the pit bull of the fish world nice and friendly and tell it sees another betta(male)

Well I've tried this twice in a 75 gallon and both times I had to pull the betta out because the angel was aggressive towards the betta and fighting didnt seem to help. Its almost like the angel would ignore the betta's threat and just charge right away and bite which would spook the betta and then it would try and dart away with the angel right after it. This is a planted tank too with lots of hiding space but for some reason the angel was aggressive only towards the betta. Mind you the angel was in the tank first... Also the angel was about 3" long so about an inch longer than a betta.

Are you serious? Maybe it has the attitude but sure as hell cant fight. 2 years ago I went to big al's and purchsed a red betta (male) and put him in a 20 gallon, then later on I wanted some other fish in the 20 gallon so I added two ottos and 5 cherry barbs. The first day the betta was chasing the barbs around and the next day I saw my betta huddled in the corner, unable to move because he'd get attacked by one rogue barb. I'm not sure what was different with this cherry barb but it was much more rich in colour. Had a lot more pink/red in him. Anyway it was hopeless to see them fight because the betta was just unable to move fast enough to take on the cherry barb which was maybe 1 1/2" long at best.

PS my bright but aggressive cherry barb is like the left one on this link and the other cherry barbs are all like the right one

Note: this is a generalization as all bettas are not alike. I'm addressing the aggressive betta personality here only.

Aggressive bettas are bullies. Pure and simple. They'll pick on any fish that won't fight back. It will either continue to harrass that fish or will get bored and find something else to do or someone else to pick on.

If the fish fights back, then you get another story. Yah, bettas can fight -- other bettas. They are very slow and if the fish they are fighting with is faster, and most are, chances are he's going to get the short end of the stick.
