would this be an ok combination36 Gal, pH 6.8, 0,0,20. weekly 30 % wc Heavily planted Hatchet fish, ottos, and cories are the other tank mates. I was think one colorful fish would really cap this tank off nicely But didn't know if the fins on the BST would be a problem. Thanks for the help

Every betta is different. Some will get along with everyone, some don't like really colorful fish, some don't like long fins, some only tolerate bottom dwellers and some won't tolerate anything that moves. Unfortunately bettas are a luck of the draw, I've had a little bit of every personality. You might want to try a female, not as big or glorious as males but their a safer bet if you really want a betta.

We've got regular and long fin blackskirts with a betta in the tank (and neons as well). Works well here :)

I agree that betta personalities vary incredibly! I have a few that couldn't be with ANY fish and a few that would probably form a fraternity.. lol

Do you already have the betta? It sounds like you are wanting to add the LF BST to the mix of fish. Personally I wouldn't do it. The betta may try to kill the black skirts and/or the black skirts may nip at the betta. I would do a more peaceful tetra like neons, cardinals, bleeding hearts, glowlights, penguins or rummynose tetras.
