Here are a few of my questions...

1. After they mate, can they be kept together in the same aquarium?

2. After they mate, can they both be kept in the same aquarium as the eggs? Even if the male will eat some eggs, because I'm not trying to have a ton of betta fry.

3. If I leave the male and female in the same tank as the eggs.... When the eggs hatch, can I leave the fry together with the parents?

4. How long will it take for them to hatch?

5. What to feed them when and if they do hatch.

1. nope

2. nope

3. nope

4. bout 2 days, depending on the temp of the water...the warmer the water is, the quicker they will hatch...(80-85F is good)

5. newly hatched betta fry will not need to eat for a few days, as they have a yolk sac which nourishes them at first. After a few days you can feed them on infusoria, micro worms or vinegar eels. As they grow out a bit you can switch over to baby brine shrimp if you want. Another option would be a powdered fry food...which PetSmart usually carries...made by Hakari. Live foods are best though.

On questions #s 1-3.............male and female betta are not compatable in most cases....almost ALL cases in fact. The female will tear into the male or the male will tear into the female...both will eat the eggs...if not right away, as soon as they become free swimming and start looking like food. The only time you might be able to keep male and female betta together is if your tank is very large with alot of plants or caves to hide in amongst.

1. No.
2 & 3. No, it's quite likely that the male would kill the female if you did this.
4. I think it was something around 3-5 day, however I'm not sure.
5. micro-worms.

EDIT: darn, EMG beat me too it.
