Hello all so I had a vision of a smaller planted tank with a male betta and a few bumble bee gobys. I have read that bume bees are slightly brachish and can be nippy which brings about some concern. Can anyone share any info on the matter?

Brackish..wouldn't do too well fw long term. I'd do mollies in with them and go full brackish tank.

I'm not 100% sure of this, but I think that there are multiple species sold as "Bumblebee Gobies" and some are fully freshwater.

I would be weary keeping them with bettas just because of the risk of them being eaten. They are small colorful fish, so they could make easy prey for an angry betta.

Your best bet would be to get them from a trusted LFS and keep them in what their kept in now. Some cool tankmates for them if their brackish would be F8 puffers (20g +), mollies, knight gobies, ect.

Thanks for the responce, so does that mean at the LFS they have them setup wrong? Also I have read there are many sub-species and one does better in FW long term

I was also planning on building a few rock caves so if the betta got a blood rage the gobys would have a nice low hiding spot

I've kept a Betta with BBGs before and it worked fine, but I think it'd boil down to each Betta's individual temperament.

There are multiple species of BBGs sold in our hobby, but as far as I know, none of them require or even prefer brackish. All the goby and brackish aquarium enthusiasts I've talked to over the years are convinced it's just outdated information that continues to spread via hearsay.

Ive had them for at least 8 months or more in fw and with a couple of bettas(at different times, dont worry) and it was absoulutely fine. The bettas didnt seem to notice them and the gobies never seemed to noticed them either. However, I do know that bettas can have completely different personalities but I would give it a shot.

Thanks for the responce, thats kinda what I thought is the betta and gobys wouldn't even notice eachother. I would have caves so the gobys could hide and plants so the betta could suspend in
