Best perfom & pice value on 100ga can filter

CWO4GUNNER

Well almost the best value. The Fedex guy just delivered my 3rd and last $199 Ebay FX5 for my 225 tank if the restoration is successful Lord willing. Notwithstanding Im tempted and will probubly buy one of these Magnum 350's deals as secondary for the 225 tanks so I can alternate cleaning and rinsing filters on water change days with running clean aquarium water instead of the dreaded dirty bucket squeeze routine.:silly:

I've been running a magnum 350 and a C-360 on my 125 gallon tank. The 350 does a lot more mechanical filtration than the C-360 for the larger particles The C-360 with the larger amount of media (and less flow) does a better job on the smaller particles. Overall I like the combination. For a while I had two 350's on the tank and always had small floaties that drove me nuts. Once I added the C-360 ($50 ebay - faulty top that Marineland replaced for free) I got crystal clear water.

I also had a Magnum 350 on my 125 exclusively for about 6 months, but I modified mine to polish as well by placing a poly fiber sock on the inside of the blue bio sock. So I have two socks over the carbon canister one white for polishing and the outer blue to catch the big stuff. The Poly blanket is pretty cheap 12"x6 feet at PetSmart for $4. After about 2 months the poly gets caked black and heavy so I just toss the Poly out and and replace. But it really polishes the tank no particles at all. Now I have poly pads on my FX5 and my aquarium is the clearest its ever been. Im hoping that between the Magnum and FX5 I can go 3 to 4 months without a filter change lol.

Personally Id rather put the saved $20 toward a Penguin 350 if I wanted Bio wheels as I think they are more effective and designed to be on an HOB as a separate filter plus I like to use the HOB filter reservoir to grow low light house plants hydroponically and suck nitrates out of my tank.

The Mag 350 comes with a Vac adapter that can be used for cleaning and de-watering even pumping water back into the tank. having the extra pluming for just bio wheels and there taking up extra room is wasted space on the back of an aquarium IMHO. But in all fairness I have never used the Magnum bio-wheels so maybe so maybe you need to hear from someone that likes them.

Is the only difference between the 350 and 350 Pro the bio-wheel?

Yes
But you might want to call and ask if they come with the "Double Quick-Disconnect Valves".
IDK if any mags are sold without them, these days? But big als doesn't mention them.
The Quick-Disconnects are invaluable to me, as I like to let the hoses go without cleaning for a few months or when gunk comes flying out. Whichever comes first. Opposed to letting the canister go for no more than 2 weeks. I like to get the junk its catching, out of the system. Which is half of my filters job... to catch stuff, so it can be removed. It does nothing for water quality.

And they make for removal and re-insallation alot easier.
Turn off
close 4 valves
twist
pull apart
lift canister off of motor
clean
replace

Tip: when assembled from the box. Cut the two hoses coming from the canister to the disconnects, at different lengths.
Makes it easy to know which hose connects to which, while your inside the cabinet. ;)

Is it worth the extra money?

Depends

I wouldn't recommend them for anything bigger than a 55g.
Or a planted tank.

And with the flow cut way down on the output. It would be an awesome set-up for smaller tanks.
The mech/bio filtration of one of these on a 20g would be uberly ridiculously awesome. lol

I guarantee they come with the double quick disconnect bayonet locking valves. If they didn't there would be no way you could service the filter without flooding the floor or having to take down all the plumbing including the bio wheels each time you cleaned the canister. I think if Marineland (the manufacture) did that suddenly after 20 years including them with the Magnum 350, it would be a PR disaster sort of like deciding to sell bicycles without tires to save a buck.
