I'd read through a lot of purigen threads lately, and am sold on it, so I'm going to try it to see if it's right for me. I'd like to know people's opinion on what type of bag is the best. I've read threads that anything under 250 micron bags is not good, and I've read that they're fine, so I'm a bit conflicted. I purchased one "The bag" which I believe is a 180 micron mesh bag, but wondering if a 200 micron would be adequate. I know that the bags will be between 5-10 dollars each. Thank you.

ps. I'll be using it in HOB filters so smaller bags would be fine. Thank you.

I've been using Purigen for about 2 years now - right out of the 250 mL Seachem bottle, and found that the best way to confine the very small particles so they don't flow out into your tank, is to buy the bags at PetSmart
( 2 sizes - about $1.99 for a pack of 2 bags) - double them up and you won't have any problem.

FYI, the 100mL Purigen comes in its own sealed pillow/bag.

I bit the bullet and bought the purigen media bags. They are way overpriced IMO, but at least they'll hold up long-term being soaked in bleach solution.

Yeah, I know that Slappy - I've used it - problem is, it's twice as expensive as buying the bottled Purigen, and it's only one sized bag - you can't make it fit your filter(s) to work efficiently.
I was addressing the OP.
Just offering an easy solution to the 'media bag' issue many folks have with Purigen.

We're all aware of the cost differences when it comes to buying products in bulk. I for one, prefer the 100mL baggies as one pillow treats up to 100g and can be recharged almost indefinitely. The cost really only comes into play when buying Purigen for multiple tanks and even then, baggies will need to be bought for each tank.As far as the size of the bag is concerned, I haven't had any issues getting it to work efficiently in my filters.
Again, it's just an 'FYI' for the OP (or anyone) that might be interested in the option of using the 100mL pillows.

thank you. I was thinking i could split it up, but if it's sealed, I might be SOL and will have to use that one bag for just one of my four tanks. Unless I can open it up, split it up, and reseal it.

I wouldn't open it, myself. Since you have multiple tanks, I'd either buy the bulk Purigen and individual baggies or buy 100mL pillows for each tank. Your choice.
