First off,
This is a barred midas (red devil), right?

Secondly,
Is it male or female?

Anything else you can say about it?

It does look to be a mix between a midas and a red devil. As far as sexing how big is it? once it hits about 4 inches you can tell what the sex is. as of right now it looks like a female but it depends on your answer on how big it is.

Your Midas is a completely separate species from the Red Devil. They are closely related, but they are not synonymous. However in the age of commercial fish hatcheries, often times the two fish are cross bred and we get watered down versions of either species. Fish caught in the wild are the best chance at getting a pure specimen. But, yes, it looks like a barred midas for sure.

Id say it is around the 4-5 in mark.

Nice looking!

Nice catch, Voxmeus. He'll be a real meanie when he starts to mature. Here's one at about 7-8". Enjoy! :thm:

nice!

great color! mine gets his darker stripes when he is hungry or upset. it's pretty cool to see him change according to mood. :)

Looking at yours again...he might have more Red Devil in him than Midas. (going by the longer snout) Still going to be an awesome fish though.

Generally midas and red devil mean the same to me, unless you use binomial nomenclature or designate it as WC or F1 or somethign like that.
