Can I use bamboo as an aquarium plant? I know you can use dead bamboo, but would like to know what would happen if live plants are submersed and come out of the water.

6 gallon tank
Planted with Cypress Driftwood

lucky bamboo will be good if you have an open top tank and don't provide it with direct light. remember not to submerse the leaves.

it is fine fully submerged. mine lives with fancy goldfish, and does fine with elevated salt levels and even went through a heavy treatment of quick cure without any problems. here is a pic of the setup. the 55 with the lucky bamboo is on top. it is right in the middle in the vase since there is no gravel. as far as i know it shouldnt effect your water parameters.

I had a lady at petco tell me that bamboo wouldn't grow very well in an aquarium, but it will live. I dunno how true it is but that's what I was told.

i had a lucky bamboo "forest" in my tank for about 3 months, it looked great. then they all turned brown and died.
