I have wanted a ball python for about 6-7 years and have been researching them for about the same. But recently, I have been impressed and excited about bearded dragons. My LFS has had one for a while that is very friendly and docile. They also seem maybe less finicky and easier to keep? I am starting research on the bearded dragons now but would love to hear insight from others that own one or the other or both!

Thanks!

If you're into watching them do stuff, go Dragon. If you're more "hands-on", I'd suggest going Python. w/ Ball Pythons, try to go w/ captive raised specimens as wild caught ones may (or may not) eat for you. I think some who've tasted fowl won't go back to rodents...

Personally, I'd go with the bearded dragon. That's only because I love the look of 'em. I really don't know anything about either, except that I think bearded dragons look really cool.

i had a ball python from grade 5 up to 1997 and 'Regius' was the neatest little snake. i'd go for walks in the neighbourhood with him wrapped around my neck (scared the bejeebus outta the kids on the block! lol). never had an issue with him being a finicky eater and he was wild caught. if you feed live mice to snakes and want to save a few bucks just breed them yourself (mice are the guppies of the rodentia world.....lol).

but like squawkbert said, if you are looking for a more active pet, go with the dragon.

Hm. I like to watch and hold. Though the activeness of a Bearded Dragon is more appealing. I am going to review the adoptions in my area...

Well I'm not much of a snake person so I say go with a beardie. Great personalities, easy to handle and not very difficult to keep. They're definitely one of the best beginner lizard species after Leopard and Crested Geckos.

So, this cashier at LFS was holding a crested gecko in her hand, when it jumped onto her shoulder. She didn't feel it on her shoulder and was like "OMG! Where did it go!?!?". When the other cashier pointed out that it was on her shoulder, she said, "oh, good... I was afraid it landed on the floor, and broke it's neck or something..."

Just thought I'd share.

Crested Geckos rock! I have 3 of them. They don't really run like normal geckos. Instead they hop or jump to get where they're going.
