Hey all so my newly added severum (2 weeks ago) seems to be possibly pairing up with my gold severum?? I have no idea how to sex them and I have read the vibrating/shaking could be dominance or breeding behavior. To help the experts sort this out I made a video of them doing it. BTW the rock overhang and the rock below it are where they spend the most time doing this and they do it very frequently. Everytime I walk past they are vibrating it seems. In the video the gold one didnt do it but last night I observed him/her doing it multiple times.

Please let me know what you guys think. On another note: can anyone sex them from the video?
Also from what I understand the gold is a kind of ablino version and if they did spawn it would be a primarily green spawn with the possibility of a few golds in the mix?

I haven't spawned or kept severums yet so I cannot comment for sure, however I have spawned Dovii. The behavior was very similar. Based on the video I would say there is a good possibility. The biggest thing that stands out to me is how the gold is following the green everywhere. If it was a dominance or aggression act they would typically stay away. At least that is what I have experienced in the past.

Thank you for your input! Just reading online it can be anything from breeding to gill flukes iv even read lol I really do think it's breeding behavior but I suppose we shall see!

To me it looks a little more like aggression... The gold one is pretty persistent in showing the green just how big and tough he is. Do you see breeding tubes on either? Once you see those, then you'll have a better idea of what they are up to. There can be a lot of displaying and aggression before they breed (cichlids in general), so even if it is aggression right now, things can change!

Congrats. You're gonna have a bunch cute baby green severums running around!

What's the situation on that background? It's rad!

Do severums pretty much take care of the babies? Or will the other fish eat them up.

The background is one of my favorite parts of the tank it came with my tank when I bought it off the floor at the global pet expo fr Hagen here's the full shot

Sorry I can't answer your question about the fry. But man that is a nice tank/background!

"Severum Eggs. For maximum fry production, yank out your severum eggs. Or, if you have enough room, you can’t beat the entertainment value of watching the parents care for their hyperactive herd of fry -- especially as they grow larger."

A google search should be able to get ya some better answers. What else is stocked in the tank?
