Remove the power filters and take to a sink.
There you will need to remove the intake tubes and clean them inside and out with a filter stem brush. Next you will need to remove the impeller and clean them. If you have a newer style Aqua-Tech, the impeller came out with the tube and is the blue thing that looks like a boat propeller. If it is the older style then you have to remove the impeller housing from the filter box. All you have to do is put your hand in the filter box and remove the piece that is located where the intake tube is. Actually, the intake tube slides into this piece. Clean the impeller housing thoroughly. If the impeller came out with the housing, clean it and remove any stringy or hair-like material that may be twisted around the shaft. Rinse all parts thouroughly. Next, clean the inside the filterbox thoroughly with the filter brush and rinse with cool water. Be sure to clean down inside the motor where the impeller sits. Look for any deposits in the impeller well (where the motor is that the impeller slides into) and remove. There may be a piece of carbon or gravel lodged in the impeller well. This is easily removed by either using a straw or by pouring water into the filter box and then inverting quickly above the sink. Reinstall all parts in the reverse order and hang filter box on the aquarium. Fill with water and restart filter.
If this doesn't work, check the impeller for any loose parts. Hold the impeller magnet and spin the blades. They should spin 359 degrees in either direction. If they spin 360 degrees, call Marineland for a replacement impeller. This is covered under the warranty.
