What do people do with their aquarium water? Dump it in the toilet, sink, bathtub, water the plants or just simply dump it on the lawn. I heard that aquarium water dumped in the sink/tub/toilet is a big NO NO, and just put it on the lawn.

Anyone know the right way to dispose of water after a water change or a simply cleaning.

When I clean my big tanks it just goes right down the drain cause I use my python. The little tanks I just clean with a little gravel vac and a bucket and either use it to water house plants or the flower bed out front. The plants seem to really thrive!

I usually water my pitcher plant with the water change from my 20 gallon, and seems very beneficial. But 90% of the water goes down the toilet/sink/tub. Plus I head it is not good to dump any plantings or any plants that seeded off due to it growing in the pipes?

I usually use the python and hang the one end out the window when I am taking water out and then hook it to the sink when I need to add the water back. If you are doing nothing with the water, why not find a use that will be beneficial. Seems like a lot of waste to drain it if you ask me.

Yep, Mine goes into the houseplants. I noticed leaf sized tripled when I started doing that, More blooms on the hibiscus and such as well.

I would highly recommend everyone get some houseplants to make sure fishy water doesnt goto waste. Plus its good incentive to get water changes done when your houseplants depend on it.

:^)

I have an old tub in back yard. The drain is attached to "Rain gutter" material. I dump water into tub, water goes down drain into gutter, gutter empties into my fruit trees.

I used to dump it down the drain, toilet or bath. Never knew I was not suppose to do that.

Now I just dump it all on my lawn, can't see the lawn growing any faster though.

Currently...just throw it out on the lawn

Coming Soon to a flower bed near me....custom irrigation setup. 55g drum and some tubing. Just one way I can help out the wife with her flower beds. Of course..the nice fertile water might cause her to do more weeding. ;o)
