My gf wanted to go into Petco the other day to look for stuff for her dog. I decided to check out the fish department and make myself angry. Actually, there was no one dead or sick fish and the whole area was neat. I saw they had some plants in these weird looking tubes. I read the packaging and it they were live plants! The roots were in little wet pepple looking things. Has anyone purchased these before? They actually all looked very healthy and were $3.99 each.

yea I've gotten them before. I bought java fern, and a sword( actually it was three different ones bunched). The sword is dying slowly, but it hasn't gotten a chance to root yet, so I don't have a final opinion yet. Some of the plants they sell aren't for a aquarium, they're for a terranium, but they don't say on the packaging, so you should do some research before you buy. They pack the plant's roots in some sort of gel. But like I said I don't have a final opinion yet, but I think once everything roots, it'll be fine.

I'm just saying, it was weird. I'm used to seeing them bunched or in the little pot with that sponge-like material. Oh well, if I can find something good enough or "rare" enough, I guess I'll buy.

Yeah, bought one for a terrarium (as ttan said) and it was nice...

just for your own sake...make sure the tube is CLEAN! :thud:

It's probably not the same thing, but a LONG time ago when I was in Florida, I bought a plant in a tube that was growing in jelly stuff. It wasn't for the aquarium, just a regular houseplant, but it was advertised as plant cloning (grown from a cell), thus the tube and it was sealed. They almost wouldn't let me bring it back across the border.
