Hi, I'll like to know if I can place a Jager 3606 fully submersed in a horizontal position inside the tank? My reason for doing so is because if I place it in a vertical position, I can't direct any water current onto it, I have a rain-bar connected to an Eheim 2026 filter which is attached horizontally in my tank, just wondered if it's safe to attach the Jager 3606 horizontally below the rain-bar?

Or do you guys have any idea on what I could do if the heater can't be used in a horizontal position?

Thanks. :)

Sorry about my english

I've "heard" that the Eheim Jager heaters are the same as the Ebo-Jager heaters of yesteryears. Apparently they could not get the heaters UL certified unless they put the do not submerge label on them. That being said, why did UL pass the EBO heaters if the Eheim are exactly the same? I bought an Eheim to replace an EBO unaware of the change. Since then I have been buying Visitherm Stealth heaters. They work just as well as the Ebo ever did.

BTW, my first EBO just died several months ago. It stopped getting hot, when I took the heater out there was visible condinsation on the inside of the heater and minor corrosion around parts of the heating element. I see no reason to buy an Eheim heater.

Thanks garbon2535 for the reply.

This is the first time I bought a heater for my tank, and my first purchase maybe a mistake.

The LFS I was in only had 3 brans of heaters, 1)Jager, 2)Rena and 3)Tetra. I chose the Jager as the package is in a better condition that the other 2 as in it's new arrival, the other 2 has been collecting dust in the LFS and the package looks like it's been there for years waiting to be purchased.

My failure to do a check with users here is also my mistake, I thought that ALL aquarium heaters can be positioned vertically or horizontally. A lesson learnt. Anyway, I've drop a mail to Eheim to ask if the heater can be fully submerged and positioned horizontally in the aquarium, will post back once I got a reply.

Cheers! :)

My LFS says that he has seen many heaters fully submerged. I do not have my Eheim fully submerged. I don't think it is necessary to have the heater in direct water flow. Place a thermometer in different places around the aquarium to see how stable the temperature is. Unless you have a large aquarium with poor circulation/large obstructions, you should be fine.

I would certainly choose Eheim over the other two brands you mentioned. I just hate the fact that it's not rated "fully submersible". I have to wonder why they did not get UL approval. The US has high safety regulations for a reason.
