I really dont know what fish to pick, i really want an angelfish, but i also want a pearl gourami. Ive been told that they arent good to have together. What are your opinions? I have a 37g with Marineland Penguin Bio-wheel 200 with 3 red wag male platies. I plan on adding 4-6 Corydoras and 3 female platies in various colors. So...The Angel? or the Pearl?

If you got a gourami, you would have to make sure it was a dwarf gourami, or else it might outgrow your tank and I've seen some huge gouramis with major attitudes. I know someone who bought a gourami and was told it was a dwarf gourami, right now it has outgrown her 75 gallon and killed everything else in the tank, I think the lfs was wrong lol. I personally would go for the angelfish, you could do 2 in a 37 gallon and they would be fine with all your other fish. They also have awesome personalities, mine eat from my fingers.....I'm not saying that a gourami wouldn't do that though.....

I have angels with cory's and platies. They get along great, I would be concerned about gourami's doing so.

Angels!

Pearl Gouramis are generally peaceful. I've kept them with Angels in the past without any issue. There may be occasional minor chasing in territorial disputes, but I seriously don't think you'd have any major problems keeping them together in a 37g.

Just to correct information above, most gouramis stay 5" or smaller. The only larger gouramis are the true giant gourami, the snakeskin gourami (really peaceful), and the kissing gourami. All others would work fine in your tank. I agree with the comment above that a pearl gourami and an angelfish should be fine in a 37 gallon tank.

My pearl can be bossy with the neons and guppys, but only at mealtime. Otherwise he just does his own thing...
