ive been breeding angels off and on for about 2 years.i would say i have good experience in doing so.i know genetics play a role in alot of things when it comes to breeding.when i have a spare tank full of angelfish fry like i have now,the only thing i do not understand is,why dont they grow fast, not fast, but i feed them fresh brine shrimp, the water is clean,i have sponge filters going on.is there another fry food out there that i dont know about that will make them grow faster?i have some angels, that took almost a year to get get a quarter size or more,am i doing anything wrong.do i need a strong male and female to make anything happen with good genes? any advice is appreciated.....

ive seen angel fry within 3 weeks that look like the real thing almost and my fry i have now are almost 2 weeks old,and they look like fry still, some have color...

You say the water is clean. I'll bet it isn't! Raising fry is a totally different ballgame from maintaining or even breeding fish. Waste in the water will seriously slow down growth rates. An Angel should have a body (not counting fins) of about the size of a quarter (sorry if you're not in the US) by about 2 months. When I built a fishroom for a friend who breeds Discus I observed a 10 gal tank with a bunch of babies that had just started eating bbs. It took me a month of working on my days off to finish up. When I finished those babies were bigger than quarters. His regimen is as follows: he feeds newly hatched bbs 5x a day, and about 15 min after each feeding he vacuumed about a gallon of water out to remove poo and uneaten food. At the end of the day he performed a 75% water change. Considering the 10 gal tanks you will immediately notice that he changes more than 100% of the water DAILY. And you say your water is clean!

i do water changes, maybe i just have a bad pair of angels,im from pennsylvania.i feed them brine shrimp just like you said how to do it..

feed lots (5-6X daily) do lots of water changes.

clean water and plenty of food gets the best growth rates.. btw BBS is baby brine shrimp the will be orange in color an give high nutrition. brine shrimp , in general, have little nutritional value..the BBS is a diuff story as the bbs are feeding on the orange egg sacks.

The old saw that adult bs aren't a nutritional food is flat out wrong. Their nutritional profile isn't as complete as newly hatched nauplii but their entire exoskeleton is composed of chitin, which is a complex protein. Humans can't digest it, but animals that feed on arthropods certainly can. There is hard data that chitin is important in fin growth.http://afsjournals.org/doi/abs/10.1577/1548-8454(2000)062<0135:EODISO>2.0.CO;2

good to know

Have you checked to make sure your heater is working properly? If water quality and feeding is on target, growing them at a lower temperature will take longer.
