I just got 2 new angelfish yesterday. All yesterday and today, they were huddled by the heater (heater isn't on) just hanging out by the corner of the tank staring at the black sealant. Come feeding time today, angelfish number one was swimming all over the tank towards the bottom, eating fish flakes and blood worms and now seems much more active.

Angelfish 2 is up in the top corner of the tank, and has totally ignored the flakes and bloodworms thus far. He really hasn't ventured from the upper corner of the tank. He isn't gasping for air or coming up to the surface, just kind of swimming around in the upper corner ignoring everything. He has good color, no signs of disease or anything else, and overall besides not eating and sitting around in the corner seems perfectly fine. I don't think water conditions are a problem, but posted them here just incase it was releavant

I have live plants with CO2 injection, so the plants pretty much take all of the evils out of the water :p:

pH - 7.1
Ammonia/Nitrites - 0
Nitrates - 10 ppm
KH/GH - 8
Water temp: 80 degrees
Phosphate - 2.5 ppm

it is not uncommon for it to take a few days for an angel to get use to the new surroundings. also they may not be use to the food your are feeding.

maytimes it is suggested to not feed the fish for a couple days since they may not eat ...

give it another day or so try also different foods, brine shrimp etc.

Well, bad news. He was lying on the bottom of the gravel dead this morning :(

The other fish is still staring into the corner, but when it's food time, he swims around and collects his food, the goes back to the corner. I went to the LFS today to get a replacement. They tested the water, came up with the same results as I did. No other fish are acting strangely...danios are fine, clown pleco is fine, swimming around happily. No sign of disease on this fish or any others. I just chalked it up to a freak death of a sick fish.

I've had an angelfish in the tank before (a freak powerhead accident claimed his life after about 9 months in the tank though :( ) who did fine. So hopefully the angel staring into the white light on the sealant of the tank and the replacement angel will be okay.

What in the name of God...
The new angelfish died. The original one is just kind of staring at the wall. He comes out during eating time and goes back, but the new replacement I got for the other one is currently upside down against the driftwood and not moving. He's defiantly dead
I've killed off 2 angelfish, and I have no clue what I'm doing wrong. Are they overally sensitive? I just float them in the bag for 30 minutes and then release them into teh aquarium. Is there a better way to acclimate them? I wouldn't suspect they'd just roll over and die (quite literally). I think the LFS might have a bad crop of angelfish or something. Can anyone provide any insight?

I do 50% waterchanges every week, I dose 8 ppm of nitrates/2.5 ppm of phosphates/4 ppm of pottasium for aquatic plants 2x a week. I'm kind of getting the impression something is wrong with the angelfishs from the LFS, because every other fish is just swimming around happily.

it might be the source. i know it sounds crazy but petsmart has good angels now and then, but you really have to look for a while, because when they have bad angels they dont do well. the best place for angels i have found is a chain called PetLand. last time i was there they had 5 different sizes and planty of really good looking colors. if you have one of those around you might want to check it out.

you might also want to add a bit of the tank water to get them accostomed to the pH better. i float the bag for 30 minutes and then add about 1/4 cup of tank water every 15 minutes for about an hour, and then i net them and let them swim out of the net into the tank (opposed to plopping them in)

There's a PetSmart right down the street. These are juvinille angels $4/piece...if you return them within 7 days, you get a free new fish with a water quality sample. I think it'd take awhile before they agreed to a cash refund, saddly. I just hate to keep killing fish, but I've had no trouble with an angel in the past. These 2 deaths have been in the same fish batch over the last few days...I think I might have to keep the fish body for 3-4 days until the LFS gets a new stock of angels

I'll definatly try your method of acclimation. I've had no problem with just plopping them in after 20 minutes of floating them, but I know adding tank water is a much better method.

you should bring it back and have them write out a "cupon" (a not telling the store clerk that you get 1 angel because one died) or take it back, get money, and then go have a look at Petsmart. IMO the $4 angels are to small, so i would look at the bigger ones.
BTW, the Petsmart should give you a new fish if one dies without a sample and it should be for 14 days, and they should be willing to give you your money back
