I'm sorry - I'm still a little confused. So you mean this fish might do all right with other species, but not in a 55?
These are the two "cookie cutter" setups I found at cichlidforums for a 55 gallon Tanganyikan tank; they both include the altolamprologus comp. Sorry this is a long quote I've included, but I'm confused by the conflicting info I've found. I've never attempted a tank like this before and I want to get as much info from experienced folks as I can before I start. If you have a moment would you mind taking a look at them? No rush, since my tank doesn't even have water in it yet.
I was hoping to try a Tanganyikan setup since it seems a little more suited for a beginner.
BTW the species profile at cf says "Despite their large mouth size, they should not be a threat to other adult fish in the aquarium, including adult shelldwellers" = sounds like your experience has been very different?
Thanks again for your time, I appreciate it.
