Has anyone ever used a plastic body filler scraper to scrape algae off the glass? Ideally i'd like something thats long handled, with a wide hard plastic blade

Something like this? except with a hard plastic blade, not metal.

The Kent Pro Scrapers are professional quality aquarium scrapers. Plastic blades will not scratch glass or acrylic aquarium surfaces, but is tough enough to scrape away the hardest coralline, green algae or diatoms. Perfectly suited for use on freshwater system. The Pro-Scrapers are also the only product that will remove algae from old scratches in glass tanks.

Thats very close to what i want, but i think the blade is too short. I need it to scrape algae off of a 180g tank, and i don't spot scrape, i scrape the entire surface of each panel of glass. Its got to be more efficient. And besides, they cost $50 + at my LFS.

How about a rubber squegee (sp?) Sounds like it may be a little easier on the surface of the tank. Might be a Dollar Store type of item.
I was actually thinking of that as well. Much cheaper and more efficient. But not as "aqua dynamic"
Like this, except without the absorbant side

Hey try the mag floats.

They are neat and they work.

I've used them and can actually say they are worth the money.

The only problem with them is they can't get into corners or tight spots.

You'll have to get something else for that.

I agree with Gambusia. I have one on every tank I have. If you have kids its the probably the ONLY way you are going to get any help cleaning the tanks. Mine love to clean the tanks with it. My 125 I have two so they want fight over it. If only there was something that easy to keep the rest of the tank clean!
