There is no set pattern. If the algae is orange, it probably is a sponge. Im not aware of any orange algae. It is usally all shades of green, dark red and/or red.

so is orange an algae or a sponge?

I have an orangish thing growing on my glass...I was guessing it was an algae, because I have a ton of other algae on the glass. This is brownish orange, but branched like a tree. You can see the hyphae (or whatever) stretching out where the colored branches are going to go...it grows pretty fast. Haven't seen it on the rock or sand....anybody know?

the orangeish stuff on the bottom of my rock, on one peice it looks textured, with roundish bumps, and groves between the bumps...
on another peice it looks like the orange stuff has a small coating of stuff on it...idk...

what are they..
