I bought 3 black convict cichlids a while back and 2 of them paired of and began mating. They've mated about 3 times since and due to transporting the tank and other fish in the tank eating all the fry, only about 7 have survive. My question is this. 3 of the 7 are pink in color and have very VERY slight striping on them. Both of the parents are all black though. Is it possible that two of the black colored parents could spawn albino babies?

Are the eyes red?

no... no red eyes... which is weird. are the females very lightly colored when they are young and color grows in when they get older? they are about an inch long right now... they are maybe 5 months old now

yeah i'm pretty sure thats what happened... thats crazy. does that happen often? thanks for the info

the pink gene is recessive. that means that a fish needs one copy of the gene from each parent to show the color (2 copies total). only one copy of the gene means that the fish will look black, but still carry the gene. your parent convicts both have one black and one pink gene.

pretty cool... i had no idea i would have completely different looking offspring from the pair. i like the pink ones... they give the tank a little more variety
