Aggressive Monodactylus sebae

Hi All

I hoping someone may have experienced a fin nipping African Moony (Monodactylus sebae)? We bought two a week or so ago and our Corydoras are hiding and they top fins looks bitten. One Corydora is swimming constantly and stressed and won't swim through the plants to hide with the four other Corys. The Mono actively stalks him.

We are considering returning them to the aquarium but have not found any literature on them biting fellow fish.

Has anyone experienced a bullying Mono?

Most Monos are known to be quite aggressive when kept in smaller groups - generally speaking, the larger the group, the more they keep to themselves.

It's also best to keep Moonys in brackish water - that is, water that is somewhere in between freshwater and marine water in terms of salinity.

Yes, I would return it also because you do not have the correct set up for them. Monos are indeed brackish fish and I believe adults appreciate salinities near full salt water.

Thanks guys, mono's safely returned and corys feeling snug and safe again. I should have done more research before being lured by their prettiness.
