My congo tetra the (larger male) is showing aggression. He's chasing some of the other fish around the tank, and I just witnessed a big scrap with my gourami. No fins were damaged but it looked pretty fierce. There are 2 female congo's but they are a bit smaller then him. I'm thinking hes wanting to mate. I'm not sure. From everything I've read about congo's is that they are very passive fish and show no aggression. I'm worried that it's just going to escalate. what are my options if there are any?

My congo's went through periods of aggresion, then for some reason just stop,I assume its because they are wanting to mate.

If you can add a few more.
I had those same problems then I bumped the school up to 8 and that was the end of it.

what else do you have in the tank? and how big is the tank. I have three and there has never been a problem thus far. *knocks on wood* I have them in with clown loaches(3) Silver Dollars(3) Blue Rams(2) and a long fin rosy barb who thinks hes a Congo. In a 75g

but congo's can get 3-4 inches. I also have 3 angelfish that will be big(they have doubled in size from when i got them.) a complete of fish list is on my link below

Seems a bit stocked... I didnt even pay attention to that link down there, sorry. Maybe if you bought one more they would calm down a bit... but I would wait and see if they slow down on their own.
