First of all, yes I know not to disperse them and they are only kept in my African Cichlid tank.

I have a mixed African Cichlid tank and none of the same species. I personally find hybrids very interesting. My Electric yellow actually holds eggs quite often, I've just only stripped her once and raised the fry. Here is the information and pics on them. The hybrids are about 2 years old.

1st hybrids: Can't remember the father's species name, it's the one below. This one and the electric yellow are constantly mating. I don't have a picture of the Electric Yellow. The offspring is the two fish on the 2nd picture. They are really yellow and develop vertical stripes when excited just like the father does. No signs of black on the fin. The shape of the head resembles that of the Electric Yellow.

2nd hybrids: Father is a really light orange Red Zebra (pictured below), almost pinkish, mother is the blue Cichlid (can't remember species name) below and offspring at the bottom. The pictures don't do the hybrid justice (sorry for the bad iphone pics), they are really light skinned but not as light as the picture makes them seem. They really look more like the father in the first picture, as the father isn't as light as the pic makes him seem either. There is no hint of blue from the mother in them. Their fins have really shiny dots on them.

How do you all feel about hybrids? Does anyone else have any interesting crosses?

My Lake Malawi cichlid tank has ended up with a few hybrids. Nearly all of them are just a dull gray color though.

Every owner of large predatory fish should have a tank of hybrids.

Really nice colorations on the first hybrids. really cant tell about the second. you should take more pics and post em

What is the name of the fish in picture number 1 please?? I have a fish that is identical and have been trying for months to figure out what type he is. Mine is yellow with faded black strips and has a blue/purple ish hue in certain lighting. Idk if the 1 in picture has that but they look to close not to ask. Thanks for any input in this and happy fish keeping.

This is an old topic so doubt you'll get a response from the OP.

Post a clear pic or two of your fish and we may be able to help though if it is a hybrid you'll probably never know what the parents are.

Thanks. I'm VERY new here so I'll try and get a picture up. Im no professional by any means and you cant really see the blue/purple hue that comes out at certain angles but this is 1 of the fish i wish to know what type it is. Thanks again.

Thanks for the pic! It looks like a Pseudotropheus crabro, the common name is Bumblebee cichlid. A very aggressive Lake Malawi cichlid.
