So, I'm pretty new to planted aquariums, and didn't entirely know what to look for. Anyway, I went over to petsmart, looked through their live plant selection, and picked a few. Little did I know that they weren't all ment for aquariums! So, I got two great plants that can go in, but the third says that it needs to stay above the surface of the water. My tank I was going to put them in looks like this:

Minus all the plants :) So, any ideas on where I can put this, or what else I can do with it? I really don't want to take it back to store! Thanks for any creative decorating ideas!

Is it a plant that needs its roots submerged but needs the leaves above water? If you have a HOB filter you can stick it in there, I've grown mangroves in mine.

Try to avoid the petco/petsmart plants in plastic tubes alot of them aren't fully aquatic and some of misidentified as aquatic species when they're something else entirely. Same with some of the ones in the fish display tanks, the ones in the big open top square tank are usually all safe.

Their idea of aquarium plants is that it can be used on/around aquariums. I had a go round with a sales clerk over it and then used a plant book to show them they were in fact not "aquarium" plants. Their great claim was that no signs say they are aquatic.:thud: I had to leave before I was escorted out in chrome bracelets. I buy all my plants from members here.

Yah, that is probably the best idea. From now on, I will probably purchase them from here. It really does drive me crazy when a store just barely twists its words, and still ends up fooling people (like me!:D) into buying something, having it die, and then have them come back and buy more! Grrrrr... Well, the good news is I can buy the plants from people here, and there does happen to be a local fish store that I trust very much, and might have a few extras! Never going there, well, for plants and fish, again!!! I still need to go there for bedding for my small animals though, so... Thanks for the heads up you guys!

Find out what type of plant it is and treat it as such. I see a lot of This as well. I did notice Petco has begun packaging true aquatics in plastic bags and hanging them on pegs in the aisles with no water, just gel. I wouldn't trust those, but they do exist.

Hmmm... ok. I will research the plant, so I don't continue my steak of plant murder!:( I hope they live! I don't trust pet stores any more! Ok, I'm done:)

Aww... man. One of them, a water wisteria, is fine, the other one, as it turns out, is a "Umbrella Plant", but actually a Peace Lily! Crud. Well, I guess I'll use the dying plant matter to cycle a tank. :o I really don't want to kill the plant, I just really don't have anything else I can do with it! I guess I can always pull it out and put it in a pot!:)
