I havethis coworker that told me his snail ate a turtle. And when he found out he took the snail, threw againts the wall and when the shell cracked there was the turtle.

When asked about sizes, he ended up saying that snail's shell was like 7" inches wide, and the turtle was about 1".

I don't believe this, but want to be sure. Has anybody heard of/ seen The snail that ate my turtle... (put some b-class horror movie music while reading it)

yah, and pigs can fly ...

Thanks liv2padl. You gave me a good laugh with that image. Also, peace of mind on the subject.

Anyone else has any unbelieveable story like that?=??

First off where would you find a 7 inch snail? That would be awsome if that happened though and weird. Was the turtle supposidly alive or dead? And did he have to cut open the snail, according to this wacked story? Anyways I liked the pig too, I used to have one exactly like that. (just kidding! lol)

there are plenty of snails that get 7" and bigger. what about a conch? i have a conch shell thats at least 8"

whether or not you would find one of these snails in an aquarium is another story though.

Dang that is one huge snail.

Its beleivable if the turtle was already dead and the snail ate him up.

I have a story, but its more beleivable.

We have some box turtles, and we keep them in a fenced off area in the back, that we call "the turtle pen". Anyhow, sometimes the turtles would escape, and one time my dad was tilling the garden, for those of you who haven't seen tiller, they have like 2 foot long curved spikes that turn the soil, and its powered by a 6 hp motor, so that churns pretty powerfully. And one of the turtles was in the garden, and my dad tilled it up! At first he thought it was a big rock, but then he saw it was a turtle! It didn't even hurt the turtle, he walked away. It just put a small scratch on his shell. I knew turtle shells were tough, but not that tough!

it's definately believable. I have a small apple snail, it's about 1 1/2 inches, and it eats the baby snails all the time. I don't have to have snail control because I have this one snail! lol

So, a snail could actually eat a turtle.... hmmmm

My mother in law has this turtle that appears in her kitchen about once every 2 months. She gives him some meat and the turtle goes back into the back yard and dissapears.

I've been there many times and haven't found the turtle, but once I saw it walking though the living room heading for the kitchen.

If I threw a snail tat size at the wall it would leave a hole in the sheetrock.

I've seen people who have had snails close on turtles' legs though. The turtle paws at the snail and it snaps shut on a toenail or something, and the turtle ends up swimming around with a snail stuck to its foot

given that snails are not known for eating anything whole, I find the story highly questionable at least. It is possible that a 1" turtle ended up inside the shell of a 7" snail if in fact they were really those sizes and really in the same tank. Inside the shell and inside the snail are two drastically different scenario's especially from this particular turtle's perspective. I cannot see a turtle holding still while a big snail rasps it to death, and I cannot see a snail eating a turtle whole either. If you've ever skinned a turtle (I have) you'll find that they are as tough as boot leather everywhere that isn't protected by the shell. Even a baby turtle is pretty tough to be eaten by a snail.
And of course as was mentioned, I can't see a 7" snail hitting the wall hard enough to break and not hurting the drywall either. The story is not impossible but seems quite unlikely to me.
