50 gallon african cichlid filter

which filter would be better for a 50 gallon african cichlid tank?
-aquaclear 50 gallon for 15.29
or
-Marineland penguin biowheel filter for 25.99
i can buy either.

Sorry to say, but both sound undersized to me. African cichlids are messy fish... I would go with at least an Emperor 400 or an Aquaclear 500 for a 50 gallon tank.

Better yet go with a cannister filter rated for a 100g tank.

Holy cow, let's not shellshock the poor guy! A canister filter for that tank would be nice, but you're talking at least $90-100 for a single canister big enough for that tank.

A decent HOB of sufficient capacity (e.g., Emp 400 or AC 500) can be had for $40-50. Not as quiet or long-lived as a canister, but probably more affordable.
