Hi everyone,

I might be getting a 37 gallon tank that comes with the canopy and the stand, all for $188.88 (Canadian).

The dimensions are (30 1/4" x 12 1/2" x 22 3/4")

After I get it cycled and everything I would like to make this a peaceful community tank.

Does anybody here have any suggestions/ideas on some fish I can put in?

I already have some ideas, but I would like to hear some input for some other people :)

37 gallons gives you plenty of options, but it's a personal choice. For example my 50g tank has honey gourami; neon, black neon, glowlight and bloodfin tetra; guppies; glass catfish and various gudgeons. This is a nice peaceful tank, tho the guppies do tend to chase each other around a bit and nip ach others tails... You'd get about 20 fish that size in there with good filtration and biomedia...

alright cool.

I really like Rainbowfish especially Dwarf Neons.

But, I also like the larger ones, (i.e. Red, Bosemani, Turquoise, etc), so would some of the larger rainbows get too large for a 37 gal, or will they be comfortable?

Rainbows would be fine. Most species get to about 6inches, so you just can't keep too many. I used to have 6-8 splendida splendida in a 50g tank with a couple of gudgeon and they were fine for years... 35 gallon would be considered the minimum tank size.

Oh ok.

I have heard that different Rainbowfish will school together, so would it be ok if I purchased 1 or 2 of each larger species and kind of mix and match so to speak? (i.e. 2 Turquoise, 2 Bosemani, 2 Red)

I've heard that the "safety in numbers" rule that alot of tetras have can be thrown out the window when it comes to certain rainbowfish, since apparently they will school with eachother.

Oh by the way, since I am wondering which other fish I can have in the the 37, would gold barbs be a good idea, or are they nippy like tiger barbs?

I don't know about mixing the rainbows as I always just had the one species in the tank. Mybe you will get other opinions on it but my guess would be it would be okay to mix. Don't know about gold barbs either, tho they are said to be peaceful and hardy and grow to about the same size as the rainbows. I've found rainbows to be very hardy as well...
