I was just wondering if anyone here has the 30 gallon long tank that's 36" x 12.5". I got the tank for free but it didn't have a hood. I'm having a hard time finding one that size. They are listed on Petsmart but I've been to 2 different Petsmarts and they don't carry them in the store. I still have to check Petco. I don't want to buy a hood online without seeing the features. So my question for the people with this tank: Does the hood have spaces cut out for 2 filters? And if you had to buy the hood seperate, where did you get it?

Our 38gal has the same top dimensions (it is 4" taller, that's all).

All-Glass Aquarium's 36" Versa-Top (item #29036) for our 38g should fit your 30g, and they come with a clear vinyl strip that you can trim for lines, pipes, and other stuff hanging off the back. Try this link:

Versa-Top at Petsolutions

The total glass width plus hinge is 9-5/8" to allow for the vinyl strip on the back.

Versa-tops are sold without lights. You can put strip lights or whatever you want on top of the glass cover.

I found a pretty good price online for the kind of hood I'm looking for and the brand is All Glass. But there are 2 customer reviews saying after a few months the lights wouldn't work anymore. I mean, it's 2 bad ones out of the hundreds they probably sell. So someones bound to get one that might have problems. That can be the case with any product. Does anyone have a hood made by All Glass and had any problems with it?

Hmmn, well I had a pair of 24" all glass hoods for about a year. After I built a custom canopy for the aquarium I didn't need them anymore and I donated them to charity. That being said I didn't have any issues with them durring the time I had them.

I have a 30 long that I just got--I have not figured out what I'm doing for lighting or a hood--but on my 38 I have plates of glass from old picture frames as a lid over which I have a 48 inch shop light.

My 38 is All-Glass tank, Versa-Top and strip light.

No problems over the last couple years. Gotta replace that Coralife bulb (it's 2-1/2 years old), but the plants are still going like gangbusters.
