Hi, I have a tall 20 gallon tank. I was thinking of giving my 3 guppies and white cloud minnows into the tank. However, I was thinking that I could do some other schooling fish instead. One fish that instantly crossed my mind: Tiger barbs. I love these fish and they are the size I find interesting. I would like to know if there are any other fish that are around that size. What kinds of other fish could I have? Should I put the guppies and minnows in the 20? Or should I stick to the barbs?

Is it a 20g long (30inches x 12 x 12) or a 20 high 24" x 15 x 16?.

I'd vote no to tiger barbs in either...look at 6 (hexozonas?)or 8 (octozonas) striped barbs. Smaller & more mellow, but similar in color.

My idea exactly the I have the Bornean tiger barbs (hexazona) and they are among the best behaved fish ever. Much smaller as the ordinary tiger barbs though.

Like fishorama said. I wouldn't keep a proper sized group of tiger barbs in anything smaller than a 55g, maybe a 40b. I kept a smaller group of them in a 29g for awhile. Not enough space.

Harlequin Rasboras would be a better choice for a tall 20 gallon tank, instead of Tiger Barbs. They stay smaller and are not aggressive compared to the barbs. I’ve kept a group of 6-8 rasboras in a tall 20. But white clouds are schooling fish just like rasboras, so it’s normally best to stick one group of schooling fish in a 20 tall.

I have an interest in the Borneo tiger barbs. Is there anywhere online I could get these?

Also sold as the 5 or 6 banded barb. They have become fairly common.

Ok thanks. I will keep an eye out at my local fish stores. If not I can always place an order. Before I get these fish could someone’s give me their water perimeters and how many to put into my tank?

Also look for online sellers if you're willing to pay for shipping. Wet Spot or others... Ask if your lfs can order them for you.

But I do like Vincenia's rasbora suggestion. Smaller & mellow, I love harleys! Or Espeis...both are pretty & not at all nippy.
