They look like they need to be pulled up some. The crown atop the roots should not be buried.

$40 isn't all that much for a single pleco. I have paid several times that for plecos.

I see. I must be ignorant to how expensive high fish can be. LOL I will stick with my 10 dollar fish for now.

Nice plec. As far as your plants go, as long as they are growing well just leave them alone. Plecos have a tendency to be rough on plants and inadvertently dig them out at times. I bury my plants deep as well for the same reason. if they grow, so be it.
