Lovely! I love those blue tubs :) I use wading pools because they provide more surface area, but laundry tubs are definitely more practical

Thanks, yeah same here with the weather it looks like we are back in the 80's for the next few weeks with night lows in the upper 60's so a few more weeks and the fish will go out.. I really like the blue tubs as well..

Picked up water hyacinth last night at the NJAS meeting. They're all in one tub right now, but will soon be portioned out to all of them.

How do you handle overflows? We get a LOT of rain here, and I'm pretty sure we've lost fry to the tubs overflowing. Short of running out and siphoning some out before each storm, I don't know of much that can be done to stop it. All the things I've come up with will either lose siphon and stop working at some point or clog with plants and stop working.

I really want to get a pond or two going cuz my gymnogeophagus would love it! If you have extra space I'd get a group of gymnos and they should spawn for you.

I have a 40 gallon aquarium that I keep outside year round here in So. Cal. I don't use a filter but have it stuffed with water hyacinth, water lettuce, java moss and assorted semi tropical fish and seasonal tadpoles. How big are those blue 5 dollar tubs? Are they unfiltered?

The blue tubs are in my opinion at least 30 to 40gal tubs not really sure what the gallons are due to not having that info on the side of the tubs, as for any filtration or overfills I do not have any, I use plants as filtration and in my area around summer time we really slow down on the rain fall, so my water levels stay low.. I usually have problems like birds and lizards drowning and an occasional squirrel not making it out so i try to place objects like wood limbs so that critters can climb out.. Plants I use are Water Hyacinth, Naja Grass, mosses and Anacharis, I place my tubs in full shade with just a bit of morning sun, my two larger ponds are basically the same way..
