pics are less than 2mins old!! I'm pretty excited. They're still going at it right now. Couldn't find any moss today so stuck some fake plants in there and crossed my fingers. Going good so far. Please post any tips on cherry barb fry/eggs.
As I mentioned in the other thread I didn't really do anything special. They bred in the tanks with ther fish in there. I really wasn't interested in beeding them. All I did was add some java moss when I noticed they were breeding. I didn't feed them anything special either. I suppose they ate the fish flakes so maybe algae.
From what I've read, they can drop a couple hundred eggs. So at some point you'll have to decide you have enough and move the fish out of there before they eat up the eggs.
Thanks everyone I keep running to the tank and back again to make sure they're not eating the eggs. It's 10:24pm here I don't know how long they're going to take. I will keep everyone updated. I two fat females in there but one felt neglected and started to EAT EGGS!! =/ but I took her out and the others keep going with me trying to catch the eater. lol crazy. heres another pic a few minutes earlier I caught a picture of the egg before it hit the bottom.
I've got a total of about 10 - 12 fry between the 2 tanks. They start out very small; maybe a mm long or smaller. Supposedly they hatch in a day or two. Since mine were in the same tanks as the other fish I didn't see them until they were bigger. I think I first noticed the first one in May and it's still not full grown. I have them in many different sizes so they must have been mating over a long period of time.
As the fry are so small they need very small food. Some sites suggest feeding a little boiled egg yolk, baby brine shrimp or microworms. Mine fed on whatever was already growing in the tank. As you got the eggs in a new tank there may not be anything there for them to feed on.
Do a google search on cherry barb breeding ad you should find a lot more info.
