Hi there,

I was wondering if I can mix zebra danios and kissing gouramis? I really just want 2 kissing gouramis but I'm planning on getting 6 zebra danios first because I heard they're hardy..then maybe after awhile I'll get the gouramis? I've gotten blue gouramis before mixed with neon tetras and the neon tetras were fine, the only problem was that the two gouramis were agressive with each other so I took them back to the shop. The tetras are healthy though. So is it safe if I get 6 zebra danios and 2 kissing gouramis? Or maybe just 1 kissing gourami with the danios? Thanks!

Both fish will outgrow your tank unfortunately. Danios get three inches long and kissing gouramis could max out a 12 inches. Maybe look into nano fish? A small rasbora and dario dario would be an excellent substitute. Though a bit tricky to find you might have to order them unless you have a nice LFS.

Agreed, your tank is too small to accommodate your stock list.

In a 10g you could do a single dwarf gourami with dwarf cories or maybe 5-6 neon tetras.

Petco has a sale going on now for fish tanks - $1 per gallon. You could look into getting a larger (40g+) tank for those kissing gourami.

Always do your research on fish before jumping in and getting them! You're doing a great job so far.

Zebra danios are really no more than 2" long; but too active for a 10gal. Kissing gouramis are giants for this tank as said. There is one very hardy little fish related with danios, colorful and better suited for a 10gal: the White Cloud; 5 or 6 of them will be OK in that tank. Check them out. IMO you can have them there with a pair of dwarf gouramis, good filtration and frequent water changes.
