Which type of Betta should I get?

Given what I have said in my post, what type of Betta do you think I should get?

I have a spare 2.5 gallon cycled tank, and I want to get another Betta.

The problem is I can't decide between getting a king Betta and getting a blue female Betta.

On one hand I LOVE the way king Bettas look and I have really been wanting one.

On the other hand (and this may sound very strange) I feel like I have a moral obligation to get a blue female Betta. I feel this way because years ago (before I knew better) I kept a blue female Betta "Betsy" and a blue male Betta "Fred" in a divided container that held a maximum of one liter. I feel that I now have an obligation to rescue both a blue male and a blue female and care for them right. I already rescued a blue male Betta and named him Fred. But months later I euthanized him after sustaining injuries in a tragic accident involving a modified filter intake (long story). Despite this I feel like I have fulfilled my moral obligation for the male. Now I am debating whether or not I have fulfilled my moral obligation for the female by rescuing two other male Bettas (both of whom are still alive) and the other aquatic life I keep/have kept recently.

So I feel like I have a moral obligation but I also really want a king Betta.

I am leaning toward the king Betta but I am still not sure.

I forgot to mention that if I get a king Betta I will move the crowntail Betta in my three gallon tank into the 2.5 gallon and put the king Betta in the three gallon due to the king Bettas size.

I'd say get the girl. Sadly a lot of people don't want females because they aren't as flashy as the males... She might not get adopted, where the king has a bigger chance...

Go for the girl! Female bettas are so under-appreciated! I just got me one today, and I wish I had space for a 20L so I could do a sorority.

Also, as the king betta will reach 3-4", I'd want him to have a longer tank than a 2.5g.

Meh, never feel obligated to get any fish. Only get what you want. I like all bettas, just flip a coin.

I have decided to get a female.

Thanks for the help deciding:).

Hopefully I will be able to go to Petco tomorrow. My local Petco has a wider variety of Bettas then my lfs. Petco's Bettas also tend to be healthier then those at my lfs too.

Good news!

I just finished acclimating "Betsy" to the 2.5 gallon:).

Betsy is a blue female crowntail Betta. I wanted to get a blue veiltail but there were only a small handful of female Bettas available and she looked closest to what I had in mind.

Pics will come when Betsy has gotten used to her new surroundings and when I have had a chance to relax:).
