Hey guys,

Well my 160g sprung a leak the other day, had to tear it down, going to re-seal it here pretty soon. I was going to turn it into a giant terrarium, but I've always wanted an african tank of reasonable size, so I might just take this oppertunity.

I pretty much have everything I need except rocks, shopping around all I could find was some football sized pieces of limestone at Lowe's...$11 a rock.
I haven't been able to find any lava rock other than pebble sized pieces, and I know I wont be able to afford the quantity of texas holey rock that I need.

So that brings me to the question, are there any reasonably priced rock sources that I should check into?

i got lots of nice rocks from landscape places they generally sell it pretty cheap and you can pick out what rocks you like ex. nice large river rock all sizes. and i got alot of them from streams out in my area but i found out that wasnt legal after i hauled off about 100lbs worth so i just do the landscape supply places now when i need more.

Creeks and pond areas just make sure you have permission to be on someones land collecting rock, make sure you clean em real good before placing rocks in your setup..

Gravel/rock yards. I went to Keller materials in San Antonio today. I got 148 lbs of THR for $20

As Rod said: Try the landscape places. I bought all of my rocks from one. Most of the places have plenty to choose from. Try to stay away from the big chain stores. They wanted about ten times the price per rock.

I wouldnt buy rocks and have them shipped. Way to expensive. But then again im a cheap skate.

What part of the world are you in?

Rocks are free in a creek can not beat that my 120gal CA setup is free rock.. Your call..
