This is another stand I put together for my future shellie tank. Most of it was from materials left over from the stand I built for my 125(3/4 oak plywood). Right now it will double as a DVD/Bookshelf. But the shelf is removable and the bottom can accomodate another tank up to a 20g high....if one so desires:D! I may build a canopy, but I haven't decided yet, and may not until the weather warms up again.

Looks great! I've been doing a bunch of searching for diy stands lately. I need one for my 32 and my 60.

Looks great!

Thanks bubbles and rb. Good luck with the DIY build bubbles. Just take your time and research build methods and you'll be fine.

Hey Drg Rcr,
I want to start messing around with making some furniture and this looks like a great place to start. did you use standard 1/4 round molding or did you have to custom rout and rip? is that a straight urethane finish? what did you use to cover the plywood layering on the sidewalls?

Thanks t-bone.

Flame, the molding I have used on my stand are all standard oak moldings, I've never used a router. On this one it is just a concave cove molding. For finishing on the 2 stands I've built so far, I used Watco danish Oil, followed by 2 coats of oil based polyurethane. The oil is real easy to apply, and they have 3 or 4 stain colors. I've used Natural. Just make sure you follow the directions as they are. As for covering the plywood layers on the face, I used 3/4" iron on oak laminate. It's real easy to work with and you can carefully trim/sand it if it's a little too wide. I put it on before staining, and just stain it too.

Here is the link to the 125g stand I built.

Thanks odin. I pretty much decided when I started that I didn't want doors because of the DVD/Bookshelf idea. I thought about doing a small drawer at the top, but then that would have taken away head room if I ever wanted to make it a 2 tank setup.
