Hello,

I got a discus that hides in my anubias plants ALL day. He never comes out to eat, today he attempted to eat for 2 seconds then went back in the plants when another discus got a little too close to him. Its ridiculous. He is a really pretty fish and he looks healthy, but I'm wondering what I should do with him. I have a spare tank with nothing in it, I'm wondering if putting him in that tank by himself would force him to be more brave (since theres nowhere to hide). Any suggestions?

I would suggest you research Discus more.
is this a single discus?
but in a nutshell

they are schooling fish. they prefer to have other discus as tank mates.

you should consider getting 4-5 more. but here's the catch. you need a big tank.
calculate 10-15 gal per fish.
it can get a bit more complicated but we will need more info.
tank size, tank mates , temp, water/maint schedule.

A single discus? yes, he is not in a relationship.

He has 3 other tank mates, but he is afraid of them, hence, the original question.

There is 4 Discus in a 55 gallon tank. 83 deg F, 50% water changes weekly.

Lots of things can make them shy. How long have you had them? How big are they & their tank? Many people say if you give them a place to hide they will.

I have juveniles in a bare tank with 2 potted plants & change water 30-60% almost daily.
