2 new BS convicts for my A. Cichlid community 244 tank

CWO4GUNNER

USN/USCG 1974-2004 Weps
I guess maybe I goofed still only 3 months into keeping A. Cichlids. I thought the two small 1.5 inch BS convicts I bought were African. The Mom & Pop LFS maintains them in tap water 8.2 PH and all were very healthy. Im just a little worried now that I know and forgot to ask. There is more NO mix info on the net then OK mix info. No way I can fish them out of my 244 now not with all the rocks and hiding places.

The reception by the other 18 assorted A. cichlids is mixed with the usual snub and snip at the newcomer behavior. I'm hoping all will be accepting by tomorrows feeding.

Well I had an african and a con together and they did fine! They tried breeding once actually. Haha.

Agreed on mbuna, unless they are not sexually mature yet. It also depends on if you have a male and female convict and they pair. Convicts get downright nasty once breeding. They hold their own with large SA/CA cichlids and have been known to kill tank mates much larger than them.

Well so far so good. Today both Convicts (1.5" and 2") were out in the thick of things during feeding time getting their fair share of frozen brine shrimp and Cichlid flake and both looking good with no damage.

The Acichlid community is made up of
4 Electric Yellows about 3"
1 Julido Marlieri about 2"
1 Electric Blues about 4" (other electric blue in Oscar tank due to species aggression, getting along very well now)
2 Bumblebee about 4"
1 Brichardi Albino 3"
2 Nanochromis 2"
2 Blue Johanni Cichlid 1"
2 Albino Peacock Cichlid 2"
4 Kenyi Cichlid 2-4" and 2-1"
2 Red Zebra Cichlid 2"
5 Tetra Minors 1" (get along incredibly well and at night cruise the tank open spaces alone lol)
2 Black stripe Convicts 1.5" (doing just fine so far but too early to tell yet)
Total 28 fish in 244 gallons

they may make it gunner, but i'd honestly say the mbuna will take em out eventually

One thing I've noticed is that my cichlids never fight when I'm near the tank because they're lined up eagerly waiting for me to feed them (cheeky :) )

If you can, I would suggest trying to watch your tank from a distance so the fish aren't aware of your presence. I think that will give you a better idea of how they're interacting.

Hope things go well! Got any pics?
