Also known as the Hummingbird Tetra, the Darter Tetra, and the Tiger Tetra.

thatpetplace.com is sold out and I've had really bad customer service with AZ Aquatic Gardens, which makes me hesitant to use them again. Aquabid is useless.

Now it appears that I am looking for possibly 2 species that look very similar, Characidium fasciatum and Characidium ranchovii.

Going to the good LFS today, so i'll ask their best employee. This LFS is the only place I have ever seen selling them outside of AZ Aquatic Gardens.

Hit the good LFS where I had found them previously months ago. I gave one of the employees i'm more friendly with a sheet of paper clearly stating both Characidium fasciatum and Characidium ranchovii along with all the common names I had ever seen them under; Tiger Tetra, Hummingbird Tetra, Peruvian Darter Tetra, Darter Tetra, and Walking Tetra.

Last time they had them they were few and sickly and expensive, and I only ended up with three from that batch. They're Tetras and I have the stocking space, I could easily add 15-20 of them, if I can find them.

Have you tried asking Anubias Design and Frank's Aquarium? I think both carried them at some point.

I don't think I've heard of these being called Hummingbird Tetras before, but it's quite the proper name for them. I've only heard of Darter Tetra being used as the common name, which makes sense given the similar appearance and behavior to their namesake, but hummingbird is the best way to describe that weird hovering thing they do.
