bought a couple anubis and an amazon sword today....the roots on the anubis were pretty wild so I trimmed them. is that okay, or will they die?

Cutting off the old roots (especially dead ones) actually encourages the plant to grow new roots again. As long as you didn't cut off everything, you should be fine.

it was just a pain trying to get them (anubias roots) all under the gravel. The Amazon Swords were a different story....they barely had roots.

I've been contimplating this with a couple crypts I have. The root systems are just as big as the actual plant. I know how sensitive crypts can be when moved which has made me hesitate in trimming them. Do they behave the same way as stem plants when their roots are trimmed?

I've trimmed crypt roots before and never had serious melt issues.
