I'm trying to decide between 3mm and 6.5mm pellets for my year old oscar that I rescued this weekend. He's about 6.5 inches and very stocky- he'd be living in a 10G tank. :(

I think the 3mm would be kind of small, but I've heard that too big just creates more waste.

Poor oscar :( an oscar that age should really be abut 10-12"

I would feed him the 6.5mm pellets, i would also feed him on beefheart.

Thanks for the response.

I know he should be much bigger. :( He's got some health problems- not surprisingly- hole in the head- as well as some missing scales. I'm trying to keep his water pristine and his diet high quality. I've got him in a bare bottom 65G.

Here's a couple of pics:

Wow 1 year! In the 70's it took my 2 Oscars about 3 years to get big in my 27 gallon about a foot. But who knew back then. Actually your Oscar doesn't look too bad and has a lot of color. But back then even I knew a 10 gallon was way too small. Mine had a little trouble turning around in my SS framed show tank back then.

Ill have to keep an eye on the two albino's I just got in my 60 tank, was hoping I had more like 3 years before they got big. I think overeating my play role and will try and feed them like any other fish their size.
